Olyseum, a sports social network platform founded by former Barcelona stars Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Iván de la Peña, has announced an upgraded, blockchain-powered app.
The announcement coincides with Andrés Iniesta campaign with his national side Spain in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. The platform, through this move, aims to leverage from the frenzy of the FIFA World Cup 2018 and intersection of football enthusiasm with a sustained interest in cryptocurrencies.
The updated app will launch later this year and will be tested by some football fans starting this week. It is designed to let sports people set up a social feed and interact with fans with guidance and leadership from expert technologists, Carlos Grenoir and Kevin Mitnick.
Mitnick, who is Olyseum’s security advisor is a computer security expert, who became notoriously famous for being one of the first high-profile hackers arrested back in the 1990s.
Platform co-founder and former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol said: “With the desire to expand the limits of real and genuine participation of fans, Andrés, Iván and I joined together to create a collaborative space for lovers of this beautiful sport and interact with users moved by the same feeling.”
“The values of inclusion and collaboration are intrinsically linked to our platform, which will be underpinned by blockchain technology,” Carlos Grenoir added.
Olyseum is planning to introduce an incentive program powered by smart contracts for fans contributing to the community. These contributions will be rewarded in the form of exclusive merchandise, VIP tickets, and unique experiences with idols.
